The spiral cable is a spiral wound special rotary electrical connector which allows a vehicle's steering wheel to turn while still making an electrical connection between the steering wheel airbag, horn, and the vehicle's electrical system.

The clockspring is located between the steering wheel and the steering column behind the steering wheel airbag.

When this is faulty the airbag warning light may display, sometimes it can be faulty without any warning lights displaying.
All clock springs look very similar although have different functions - it is vital the correct product is ordered by part number.

There are often spurious parts for this component that could lead to potential safety issues, this is why we will ONLY supply the Genuine Toyota part in this product range.

What is a Spiral Cable Clock Spring?
The wires from the airbag system and other electrical systems connect through the bottom of the clock spring's electrical connector to the end of the conductive ribbon. The end of the ribbon is attached through the wires on the top of the clock spring's electrical connector to the air bag unit and other electrical parts such as horn or cruise controls.
When the steering wheel revolves, the conductive ribbon rolls and unrolls allowing electrical contact between the electrical system around the entire arc of the steering wheel movement.
With a malfunctioning Clock Spring, any or all of the electrical functions that are terminated at the steering wheel may not work. A common problem in Toyota Hilux vehicles is the SRS airbag warning light will show constantly on the dash. You can also lose function of the horn or other instruments.

What other names can a Spiral Cable or Clock Spring be called?
Whilst the function stays the same it can have alternative names include clock spring coil, coil assembly, cable reel assembly, coil spring unit, contact reel, squib, airbag spring, airbag sensor.
