A Pair of Heavy Duty Front Uprated Torsion Bars, for Toyota Independent Front Suspension (IFS) models, fits either standard height to firm your ride or will raise up to approx. 2" of lift.
Our heavy duty torsion bars are tried & tested from Australia, they come handed and marked LH & RH with Torsion rotational arrows and master keyways for ease of fitment.
The Forged Steel bars are substantially thicker than the originals providing strength and durability and stability. They can be fitted to both a standard ride height vehicle and a 2" lifted vehicle as the ride height is determined by the fitter. Of course, if fitting with a lifted vehicle then extended shock absorbers would be required. These same Torsion bars are used on our 2" lift kits.
Heavy duty Torsion bars not only stabilise a vehicle's front suspension but also allow fitment of larger tyres or support the addition of extra front weight from Winches etc.

Ride height and tension is set by the torsion bar adjust bolt found at the rear of the torsion bar, approximately under where you sit. A chassis outrigger houses the adjust bolt which has a 22mm socket size head, this bolt is often found seized and with its long thin section has been known to shear when removing.
If you require these bolts then use SUHW013, comes with the top nut as well.

Questions & Answers for Pedders Front Heavy Duty Torsion Bars - Upto 2" Lift


Are the Torsion bars handed?
Yes, LH and RH, they are marked at the splined ends with directional arrows as well.

Are they easy to fit?
It is only basic nut and bolt work for a mechanic or good DIY, however, the difficulty lies in removing your old ones, that will all depend on the condition of the vehicle and the amount of corrosion that may be found. Lubricating a few days before hand will always help. The front of the torsion bar slides into the top wishbone housing, the rear to the sub-assembly arm anchor which is then adjusted by the adjust bolt.

Can I fit to a standard ride height model?
Yes, as the fitter sets the ride height then you can use these to firm up an existing standard setup, more often though they are used to lift the front end of the vehicle by applying more torsion to the torsion bar adjust bolt.

Can I not just adjust my original torsion bars?
In short, yes, if you model is soft at the front and shocks in good order then you can apply a little more tension.
The problem arises when too much torsion is applied, for example, when trying to lift the front end of the original Torsion bars and so exceeding their designed specifications.
A good analogy to help explain this is:
Imagine holding out your hand and trying to twist your little finger, the more you twist the more it wants to return, that's how the torsion bar works, now twist too far and you will snap your finger, that's not good!
Same applies to a torsion bar, apply to much tension to an already weak torsion bar and the inevitable will happen, maybe not a first but continually applying torsion when a suspension goes through its movements may result in a serious failure, so if adjusting be careful.
The thicker heavier duty torsion bars will allow for this extra torsion when lifting the front end.
