1 Year Parts Warranty
Rear prop shaft centre bearing carrier for the Hilux Pickup 2001-2016 manufactured by NPS of Japan.
- The centre bearing supports the prop shaft when a two-piece shaft is fitted. It has a large rubber mounting and bearing fitted inside a metal cage which is attached to the chassis.
- The whole centre bearing mount is fitted to the front section of the rear prop shaft and retained by the flange and central nut. Once removed the complete prop shaft centre bearing mounting with cage simply slides off the prop shaft.
Prop shaft centre bearings fail over time. The bearing itself can become noisy or the rubber bushing can become soft, perished or even split causing vibration or even knocking noises. Click on the questions tab for some helpful fitting tips!
Top Tip:
Always mark the splined flange position in relation to the main shaft so that it fits back in the same position else the UJ alignment will be out, also vital to ensure the bearing is fitted the correct way up to the chassis to help reduce the overall angle of the shaft alignment (diagram images will help).

Questions & Answers for Prop Shaft Centre Bearing Mount by NPS
Do I need any special equipment to fit?
No, once the prop is removed by simply undoing the central flange nut, you can slide the flange off the shaft, the complete centre bearing then also slides off the prop shaft.
Do I need to mark the flange?
Yes, the flange is splined to the main shaft, make a mark prior to removing aligning both flange and main shaft so that it goes back on in the same position.
Will the bearing fit either way up to the chassis?
Yes, however, only one way is correct. The bearing has a metal cage with two tabs that bolt it to the chassis, these tabs are not central to the bearing, you must ensure the bearing is fitted the correct way to the chassis to reduce the overall angle of the shaft down to the rear diff, fitting incorrectly will increase the angle causing excess strain on both the new bearing and indeed the Universal Joints (UJ's)
If a bearing keeps failing, what could be the cause?
There could be several reasons for early failure not attached to the bearing itself:
- Check no oil or contaminants are on the rubber, this could cause it to soften the material
- Check the bearing is fitted the correct way up to the chassis - it could be fitted either way up, only one way is correct.
- Check for any play in a UJ, this could cause vibration that may not be felt
- Check that the shim washer (if fitted) is in place between the flange and bearing, this spaces the flange away from bearing itself, failure to have it fitted can cause the bearing to overheat through friction - this is something often missed on assembly.
Is there movement after fitting?
Yes, the very nature of the mount is a rubber support, therefore you will always have some movement within the rubber mounting.
