A Land Cruiser 120 series air suspension to coil conversion kit. Our kit comes with the front struts built and pre-assembled, rear coils and shocks etc from Pedders of Australia.

Nb: Kit can also be used for LC3 & LC4 models originally fitted with coils - generally you would use your own cone type rear bump stops.

The 120 Series Land Cruiser air suspension system is an expensive replacement should even a sensor or shock absorber fail, convert your air suspension to the conventional coil spring set up and remove those costly electrics completely. 

This kit features all the relevant parts you need to convert your Land Cruiser 120 series from air suspension to the original coiled spring suspension setup. It will return the vehicle to its approx. original height (if it had coils from original) although the rear maybe a few millimeters higher than the original ride height depending on the condition of your air suspension (We have provided some dimensions below as a guide and the option for a rear coil upgrade if you have your spare wheel on the back door).

Please note, this is not a lift kit - Use LK019 for the lift kit.
 

  • As with all suspension shocks/coils supplied, paint is not covered under warranty due to the very nature and position of the component.
  • Always ensure your front wheel alignment and geometry is checked after installation.

Fitting Tip - Only torque the lower shock bolt when the weight is back down on the vehicle - NOT when the suspension is hanging down.

Conversion Kit Contains:

Front:

  • TrakRyder Twin Tube Gas Front Shock Absorbers x2
  • Pedders Standard Uprated Front Coil Springs x2 (7428 - 719 Lbs/In)
  • Pedders Heavy-duty Top Mounts x2
  • (These components have been assembled by RoughTrax as a pair of complete front struts as per images - saves you on labour costs at the Garage!!)

Rear:

  • TrakRyder Twin Tube Gas Shock Absorbers x2
  • Pedders Standard smooth ride Rear Coil Springs x2 (270133 - 211 Lbs/in) - (See note below for models with spare wheel on tailgate)
  • Rear Spring Seat Insulators x2 (fit between coil and chassis)
  • Rear Bump Stops x2 (bolt to chassis, fit inside coil)

Models with a spare wheel mounted on the rear door please note:
Please select the firmer (260 Lbs/in) Pedders 7429 Rear coil upgrade option by the "Add to Cart" button - this will provide you with a slightly firmer rear coil to cope with the extra weight overhanging on the rear. We supply the approrpriate insulator seat for the 7429 coil.

Disabling Electric instructions:
In our "Download" tab are Pedders complete detailed instructions to disable the air suspension electrics to ensure that no warning lights are displayed after fitment which is essential for MOT’s.

No other modifications are required with the conversion kit, although after fitting we advise a wheel alignment is carried out for optimum performance.

This kit is not suitable If additional equipment such as a winches, heavy aftermarket bull bars etc. are fitted as the final ride height may be different.

Ride heights:
are taken from the bottom of the wheel rim vertically up to the wheel arch: -
Ride heights are provided from a standard model KDJ120 that had air suspension removed
Wheel diameters will affect this ride height, you can adjust dimensions by 12.5mm (1/2") accordingly if running different size wheels.

Front / Rear ride height: - bottom of rim up to arch: - usually a 10mm discrepancy

On 17" rims
Front 760mm
Rear 795mm (Depending on coil option selected)

Vehicle ride heights are listed below;

Front: 760mm with 17 inch wheels.
Rear: 785mm with 17 inch wheels.

Measurements are taken from the bottom of the wheel rim to the bottom of the wheel arch with 17 inch alloys, plus or minus 12.5mm per inch to determine ride heights for different size wheels.

Example: For 18 inch wheels add 12.5mm or 16 inch wheels minus 12.5mm.

Questions & Answers for Pedders Standard Height Air Suspension to Coil Conversion Kit


What is air suspension?
Air suspension is made up of two airbags in the rear of the vehicle which is inflated by the air suspension compressor. A height sensor tells the control module that the vehicle needs to be raised. There are two electric gas shocks in the rear, as well in the front. Air suspension conversion kits eliminate the air suspension completely.

What ride quality can I expect?
This is a very subjective question, what one customer may feel is hard another finds great, especially with the original AHC systems and depending on where you had the vehicle set prior to having to replace it - If you ran in the softer settings then this kit is ideal.
What we would say, and as from a general feedback, is that the suspension is firmer than the original soft setting yet smoother than the hard setting, so somewhere in between would be what's suggested. 

Can I replace just the rear springs?
No, the front shock struts are also electric. Removing the rear airbags and electrics will disable the front shocks too, therefore they must be replaced.

What are rear spring insulators?
Rear spring insulators are fitted to the top of the rear spring to position the spring into the correct position. Air suspension models do not have the correct spring seating position without these insulators. These will be supplied in either Red or Black depending on the coil.

What is in the instructions that are complete with the kit?
The instructions contain the correct procedure to disable the electrics in the right way, otherwise you'll have a Christmas tree lit up on your dashboard which is a failure come MOT time.

Can I not just replace the rear suspension coils and shocks?
In short no, the system relies on the electronics to operate the shocks, simply fitting rear shocks and coils will also disable the fronts and you would have an unbalance suspension so all 4 shocks and coils should be replaced together as a kit when replacing the original air suspension.

Any tips?
The main lower bush mounting bolt must only ever be tightened to its torque when, the vehicle is sat back down on the ground for example, i.e with the weight on.
If the bolt is tightened, for example on a ramp with suspension hanging, then when the vehicle is lowered and the weight applied, the bush is instantly twisted and of course, over time will crack and fail.

For overseas customers Is there any Manufacturers's Certificate of Suitability or alike with this kit?
I'm afraid not, this isn't a requirement for the UK market so we do not have such certifications available, please do bare this in mind before making any purchase.
