Pedders adjustable Rear Panhard rod with polyurethane bushes (current stock has black bushes) installed for the Hilux Surfs & 4Runners LN130, KZN130 & VZN130's, recommended if you have raised your vehicle's suspension.
Replaces the original standard fixed length Toyota Panhard rod.

  • The Panhard rod stops lateral (Side to Side) movement of the axle - only one Panhard rod is fitted to the rear axle
  • The Panhard rod is threaded with a lock nut towards one end, this means you can adjust the rod to make it longer or shorter for exact axle positioning.
  • Made from heavier duty materials, Polyurethand bushes for better wear and performance and the bracket to accept the compensator rod link.

If you have raised the height of your suspension it is wise to use an adjustable panhard rod to correct the axle position which will in turn maintain and restore the steering geometry. A Panhard rod (also called Panhard bar or track bar) is a suspension link that provides the lateral location of the axle.

Please NB:

  • Bush colour may vary from Red or Black depending on supply at time
  • On installation ensure you fit using your original large Toyota washers especially at the axle end.

Questions & Answers for Pedders Adjustable Rear Panhard Rod - 130 Surf

Are the Torsion bars handed?
Yes, LH and RH, they are marked at the splined ends with directional arrows as well.

Are they easy to fit?
It is only basic nut and bolt work for a mechanic or good DIY, however, the difficulty lies in removing your old ones, that will all depend on the condition of the vehicle and the amount of corrosion that may be found. Lubricating a few days before hand will always help. The front of the torsion bar slides into the top wishbone housing, the rear to the sub-assembly arm anchor which is then adjusted by the adjust bolt.

Can I not just adjust my original torsion bars?
In short, yes, if you model is soft at the front and shocks in good order then you can apply a little more tension.
The problem arises when too much torsion is applied, for example, when trying to lift the front end of the original Torsion bars and so exceeding their designed specifications.
A good analogy to help explain this is:
Imagine holding out your hand and trying to twist your little finger, the more you twist the more it wants to return, that's how the torsion bar works, now twist too far and you will snap your finger, that's not good!
Same applies to a torsion bar, apply to much tension to an already weak torsion bar and the inevitable will happen, maybe not a first but continually applying torsion when a suspension goes through its movements may result in a serious failure, so if adjusting be careful.
The thicker heavier duty torsion bars will allow for this extra torsion when lifting the front end.
