How To Identify Your Toyota Land Cruiser

Below are short descriptions of how to identify the differences between Land Cruiser models.

LJ70 Land Cruiser (1988-1990) The LJ70 sometimes known as part of the 70 series Land Cruiser has a 2.4 Turbo diesel engine. The early LJ70 1988-1990 has the aluminium rocker cover and an offset cam 2L-T engine with circular headlamps. They have coil spring front and rear suspension. Picture showing later LJ70
LJ70 Land Cruiser (1990-1993) The LJ70 sometimes known as part of the 70 series Land Cruiser has a 2.4 Turbo diesel engine. The later LJ70 1990-1993 has the centre mounted cam with a black tin rocker cover 2L-T engine with square headlamps. Both models have coil spring front and rear suspension.
KZJ70 Land Cruiser (1993-1996) With a 3.0cc Turbo Diesel engine also part of the 70 series Land Cruiser. The same body shape as the later LJ70 model with square headlamps but with a 3.0cc TD engine. Also has coil spring front and rear suspension.
HDJ80 Land Cruiser (1990-1998) An 80 series land cruiser, the same body shape as the FZJ80 but with a 4.2cc Turbo Diesel 1HDT engine. Also has coil spring front and rear suspension with a swivel front axle. The rear lights are amber, clear and red.
FZJ80 Land Cruiser (1995-1998) Again an 80 series land cruiser with coil springs front and rear and a huge 4.3cc injection 24 valve petrol 1FZFE engine. The rear lights are amber, clear and red the same as the HDJ80. There is an early 1995-1996 FZJ80 model with a different exhaust system to the later 1996-1998 model, both have swivel front axles.
KZJ90 (Colorado / Prado) & KZJ95 (Colorado / Prado) Land Cruiser (1996-2000) The first of the UK 90 series Land Cruiser both the KZJ90 & KZJ95 use the 3.0cc Turbo Diesel 1KZTE engine used in the Hilux Surf and are virtually the same vehicle other than the body size. The KZJ90 is a 3 door short wheel base and the KZJ95 is a 5 door long wheel base. 90 = SWB 3 Door & 95 = LWB 5 Door. KDJ90 (Colorado / Prado) & KDJ95 (Colorado / Prado) Land Cruiser (2000-2003) The second of the UK 90 series Land Cruiser both the KDJ90 & KDJ95 use the 3.0cc Turbo Diesel D4D 1KDFTV engine used in the most recent Mk6 Hilux Pickup. They are again virtually the same vehicle other than the body size like the KZJ90/95. The KZJ90 is a 3 door short wheel base and the KZJ95 is a 5 door long wheel base. 90 = SWB 3 Door & 95 = LWB 5 Door. Both models have front and rear disc brakes and coil spring front and rear suspension.
HDJ100 Land Cruiser (1998-2003) Known as part of the 100 series Land Cruiser the HDJ100 has a huge 4.2cc Turbo Diesel 1HDFTE engine. The rear lights are huge clear, amber and red and the front side lamps have either a frosted or clear lens effect. The headlamps slope down into the grill.
KDJ120 & KDJ125 Land Cruiser (2002-2009) The 120 series was launched in 2002 with a short wheelbase and long wheelbase model. The KDJ120 model is the long wheel base with 5 doors and the KDJ125 model is the short wheel base with 3 doors. Both SWB and LWB have the 1KDFTV 3.0cc Turbo Diesel D4D engine. They are fitted with disc brakes front and rear and have rear handbrake shoes. The suspension set up has coil springs front and rear.
