How To Identify Your Toyota Hilux Surf

LN130 Hilux Surf (1989-1993) The LN130 is easily identified by its 2.4 Turbo Diesel 2L-T engine, the rear window slides into the tailgate and folds down like a pickup. The first Hilux Surf to have Independent front suspension (IFS) with coil springs on the rear and torsion bar front suspension. KZN185 Hilux Surf (1996-2001) This time the KZN185 Surf shared virtually nothing with its previous KZN130. With an all new body and front and rear coil spring suspension set up. The rear tailgate lifts up so you can stand under it like a hatchback but also on very rare models it had a tailgate similar to the LN/KZN130 where the window can wind down into the tailgate and also lift up. The rear lights were clear and red. The KZN185 is often known as the 3rd generation Hilux Surf.
UK 4Runner (1991-1995) Exactly the same model as the KZN130 Hilux Surf but re-badged as a 4Runner for the UK market, in fact it uses the KZN130 model number in the UK. With a 3.0 Turbo Diesel engine 1KZT. Some models were built with a rare 3.0 V6 engine.
