Is your car due an oil change? Probably. If you want to save a few pounds, then why not make the switch to semi synthetic?
Synthetic oils are specially designed to offer high-quality, consistent performance. The benefit of using these oils is that your engine is protected over a greater temperature range, compared with using standard mineral oil. Synthetic oils contain fewer impurities than mineral oil and they’re thinner, which helps to improve your engine’s fuel efficiency.
Semi synthetic oil is a cheaper alternative to straight synthetic and is typically mixed with mineral oil. Some of the other advantages of semi synthetic oil include:
- Improved lubrication on cold starts
- Better low and high temperature viscosity performance
- Decreased evaporative loss
- Better chemical and shear stability
- Reduced wear, resulting in longer-lasting engine life
- Increased engine protection at higher speeds
- Resistance to oxidation, thermal breakdown and oil sludge issues
We only stock genuine Toyota engine semi synthetic oils, available in 10W/40 and 5W/30.
Wondering what those labels mean? Well, the first number represents the viscosity when the oil is cold, and how well it flows, while the letter ‘W’ simply means ‘winter.’ The following numbers represents the viscosity when the oil reaches operating temperature. The higher the number, the thicker the oil.
Choosing a high-quality oil is vital for protecting your engine and achieving peak performance. Our oils are thin enough to assist starting and rapid flow throughout your engine’s moving components. Yet, when warm and reaching operating temperatures, the oil remains thick enough to lubricate the moving components, thus helping to limit friction and engine wear.
